1. Backlight cuts in and out when moving screen.Have taken macbook apart twice and both times there has been a temporary improvement but opening and closing causes the problem to return. I now have to have the macbook screen open at all times. Even when transporting. Not ideal.
I have had assistance from a local mac reseller who said the problem is a common one with this series of macbook and is down to a design fault which has now been fixed in the newer model. He seemed to think the problem could be fixed with a replacement cable. However he didn’t carry out repairs and would have had to send it to apple who charge the price of a new macbook for repairs, could someone from Mac repair York get back to me asap.

2. Son’s MacBook has packed in. Looks like a keyboard problem, but think it may be more than that too! Was bought for Xmas 2007, so would want to know it would be worth spending the money on a repair, rather than a replacement. Would be good to talk through with someone. We are only a few miles away in Scarrington, so can drop it in if that helps. Please call to discuss.

3. My macbook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) overheats and shuts down five minutes after being turned on. I believe its fan needs to be replaced. 4. I spilt a small amout of water on my macbook on thursdays, i left in in a bag of rice for nearly 3 days. Today i tried to turn in on but all i can hear is the fan going very loudly. is it repairable do you think?

5. I have a macbook pro 13″ mid 2010 which is 2 months old but stupidly spilt liquid gel over the keyboard so is now dead. I need a new logic board part number 661-5559 do you have the part – if so how much will it be?

6. Hello Mac Repair York, I have a macbook pro late 2008, it is under applecare, but apple will inot repair it . So I need to get a quote, realistic.
It wont turn on. The dvd player is stuck so cant get any in or out to try the apple disk, and on the screen it just has a ? question mark. I presume it is not recognising the computer. I believe the graphics card has gone wonky as their are fuzzy bleed lines when the computer is actually turned on, which I cant get it to do because of the question mark. At a guess is this the hard drive gone, which a new one was put in anyway and then it went, and what kind of price are we looking at.

7. My iBook G4 has failed after attempts to repair its hard disk with Disk Utility. It exited with the message “The underlying task reported failure”. The machine will now boot with its installation DVD but fails to mount its hard disk or allow me to select it as a startup device. Can you help?

8. I am a very experienced computer user and repairer but this is my first experience with a Mac failure. My 2008 model Macbook Pro has developed a problem where it will not recover from an apparently ‘sleep’ state. With the lid close the white status light is brightly lit. When the lid opens you can hear the hard drives/fans spin up, the status light goes a slightly dimmer white but the screen does not turn on. I have been unable to trigger any sort of sound output in this state. I have tried resetting the PRAM and the (other thing I can’t remember the name of now – power management?). I have removed and swapped the RAM modules, I have even stripped it down and ensured nothing looks broken and there are no screws loose. Alas nothing has repaired it. I did once get it to come out of this state only for it to go back into the same state again next time it went to sleep. The solution that time was to reset PRAM+Other and then leave it on until the battery died. Then when plugging it in it came on. This will not work again. I believe these problems are possibly symptoms of a logic board failure which carries a hefty repair cost.

9.  I spilled liquid on the keyboard. How much you charge for a diagnostic? Are you able to make some solder on logistic board?

10. Hi – I am wanting to update my old iBook G4 to OS X Leopard. It is currently running 10.3.9. Specs are 933 Mhz PowerPC G4, 1.12 GB DDR SDRAM. I have a Macbook Pro running 10.6.5, and have tried to use the original OS X 10.5.2 install disks to upgrade the G4 – no luck.
Do you do this service, and if so, can you please give me a quote on how much it will cost and how long it will take.
I cannot access alot of my files; jpegs etc.I may have deleted something out of a folder; but it was in my Music folder..so don’t think it could have been anything that supports files. Don’t think it is an encrytion issue as it accepted my Master password that I changed this morning. Could someone on my network / say using the same internet connection …I have a Shared guest using my O2 internet…can they access my files. I don’t have file share active.

11. I have a problem with my 15″ intel based macbook pro, which i recently installed snow leopard on.
When starting up, i get a white screen with a folder with a question mark on it. I understand this suggests a hard drive issue. I have tried booting up from the osx boot disk and running disk utility to repair it, but it does not recognise that a hard drive is installed on the system. Also, when i start it in firewire target mode, other macs do not recognise it. Can you please advise if you can help – if not fix it, then with data recovery?

12. I think something internally in my iMac has gone or is about to go. I Have the flashing folder issue at the start up. when it does boot it over heats very quick, then freezes n doesn’t respond at all. I’ve tried everything under the sun repair disk etc Reinstalled OS repeatedly, it still does the same thing. I think its the RAM but im not sure. I urgently need it fixing as I do my all work on it.

13. I am lookng to have my my powerbook pro (intel pross) model no. A1229 year 2007 repaired.Not sure of fault. No start up chime. Black screen. front light on (not flashing) just will not boot up. or from intaller disc. battery and power Ok.

14. I’ve got an ibook g4 it was in very good condition until one day it wouldn’t boot properly. The fans just spin and it shows a black screen it only turns off by pulling out the battery. From a few google searches it seems to be a logic board issue maybe the graphics chip.

15. Hi Mac Repairs York, have an early 2008 20″ iMac which had a failed hard drive replaced by Stormfront, Exeter in August 2010. This hard has also now failed and the repairer informs me that the hard drive is now out of warranty despite being told I was covered by a 12 month warranty when I picked up the machine.I have a drobo used as a back up drive by time machine and therefore just need a quote for a hard drive replacement. It currently has a 640Gb drive fitted.

16. I have an iMac purchased in 2006 that is currently running OS X 10.4.11. I am using Microsoft Office 2004 and for some work that I am currently doing have downloaded some open source software call Free mind. I am able to produce what I need in Freemind but am unable to put it into Word so that it can be viewed by others. Is this something that you would be able to help me with, when and at what cost. Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

18. My mac book pro is 5 years old and the CD drive and the screen light are not working. The reason why i am enquiring to get this fixed is that my iphone 3gs broke and it was replaced with a iphone 4. I have a lot of info backed up onto my lap top from the Iphone 3gs That I want to put on my Iphone 4. I can just about see in natural light my screen but its running on Tiger where it needs to run on leopard which I dont have. Is there anything i can do to resolve this?
